Circa 2016, I landed upon Casey Niesitat’s YouTube channel, and after watching a few of his vlogs, I got hooked on his videos. His consistency with Running particularly allured me. I got inspired by his lifestyle and watching him run every day motivated me to try out running myself.

At the start, Running felt like an immense struggle when I could barely run 1-2 km without stopping and gasping for breath. As with any new pursuit, you have to start slowly and be consistent. Steadily the endurance began to build up, and I got motivated to chase bigger milestones. First with 2k, then 5k, then 10k, then 15k, and then 21k, the desire to pursue longer distances and faster pace kept growing.

In running, there is something called a 'Runner's High'- a feeling of euphoria and calm, a state of flow, when you start to feel you can run for miles even when your legs and lungs are struggling to keep up with each step. I believe the realization that you are a lot stronger than you ever thought you could become makes you feel that way. And I can assure you this high is far more pleasing and exciting than any other substance will ever give you.

Running as a sport has one of the lowest barriers to entry. All you need is a pair of shoes, and off you go. It never matters if you can run a few meters or 100 km, you are a runner in your own right. You are competing with yourself, and your only focus is to outdo yourself. I believe Running is also a kind of mediation, where you spend a lot of time with your thoughts and focus on your breathing pattern.

All these benefits of Running have kept me close to the sport and improved me mentally and physically. I would continue to chase bigger milestones and try to improve in this amazing sport.

If you are a Runner or starting with this sport, I wish you the best for this journey and hope it changes you for the better, as it did to me. Happy Running!
